SCENARIO

Bangladesh is one of the most road accident prone countries in the world. At present the rate of accident is very high, which is gradually increasing. A large number of people are being injured and killed every day because of these ongoing road accidents. The workers involved in transport sector are also being injured and killed. The statistics provide us information that each year around 8 to 10 thousand people are being killed and 20 thousand are being disabled due to these road accidents and the economic loss of these accidents is estimated about 40 thousand crores, whose impact in our socio-economic arena is very severe. A large number of families are heading towards a dark future due to the implications. It has now turned out to be a national crisis in Bangladesh.

Reasons behind the road accidents:


1. Unfit vehicles 

2. Unskilled drivers  (The number of skilled driver in the country is very less than that of motor vehicles, As a result, a huge number of vehicles are being driven by unskilled and illegal drivers)

3. Physical and mental illness of drivers

4. Unsettled wages and working hours

5. Plying of low-speed vehicles on highways

6. Reckless driving of motorcycles by youth

7. Lack of knowledge on traffic rules among people

8. The tendency of violating traffic rules & regulations among road users  

9. Poor traffic management

10. Non-enforcement of road transport Act

11. Lack of efficiency and capacity of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA)

12. Lack of technology to control vehicle speed. (Enough modern road have been built in the country, the speed of vehicles increased, but there is no use of technology to control the speed)

13. Extortion in the public transport sector
