Key Findings
The 2025 report, moderated by Executive Director Saidur Rahman and presented by Chairman Prof. A.I. Mahbub Uddin Ahmed, documents thirteen structural causes of the crisis and places fourteen reform priorities before the incoming government.
Fatality rise over five years. Crash deaths climbed from 5,431 in 2020 to 7,362 in 2025 — despite successive National Road Safety Strategic Action Plans.
Injuries more than doubled. Reported serious injuries rose by 123% over the same five-year window — reshaping the demand on the country's under-resourced trauma system.
Motorcycle crashes in 2025, killing 2,672 riders and passengers — the largest single vehicle-category toll on record. Most victims were young men aged 14–45.
Working-age fatalities (18–65) — 78% of all deaths. Each represents a household primary earner and dependants left without income.
Children killed (under 18) in 2025 alone, including 179 aged one month to five years. Most fatalities occur during school commutes or play near residential areas.
Direct economic cost. Conservative modelling places total loss above 1.5% of GDP once unreported cases and long-term disability are included.
